Earthquake risk

Seismic action and the vulnerability of the built environment.

The approach includes probabilistic and deterministic seismic hazard assessment, scenarios at selected locations and vulnerability assessment of engineering structures. Combining hazard and vulnerability supports estimates of potential damage.

Technological hazards

Safety of critical infrastructure and complex systems.

Pollutant dispersion scenarios from technological incidents support the examination of potential consequences and response measures. This work forms part of the wider study of system safety and interdependencies.

Wildfire risk

Consequences for communities, ecosystems and networks.

Forest fuel maps and models are combined with analysis of fire behaviour parameters. In documented applications, satellite data have supported monitoring of fire evolution.

System resilience

The interdependencies that shape consequences.

Infrastructure inventories, digital twins and alternative-route assessment help examine interdependencies. Scientific analysis connects potential structural damage with effects on road network operation.

The maps show probabilities of moderate and extensive damage over a 50-year horizon, as defined in their legends. They relate potential damage to engineering structures to consequences for road operation. These are research scenarios, not current traffic information.
